ABOUT US

The NZ Game & Conservation Alliance (NZGCA) is a member-based incorporated society established in 2019.

The NZGCA operates under the volunteer management of Committee Members and employs two part-time administration assistants. All funds raised are used to benefit the sport of driven shooting. We represent everyone who is involved in game shooting, including; beaters, pickers, gamekeepers, breeders, shoot owners, shoot participants (commonly called 'guns') and suppliers.

The NZGCA is a professional source of information, guidance, and ultimately regulation.

The nzgca AIMS to:

  • Promote and safeguard sporting game shooting.

  • Allow NZ shooting preserves to operate responsibly.

  • Provide a code of conduct to establish best practice for both preserves and participants in the sport.

  • Encourage sustainable management of game birds for sport and conservation.

  • Promote conservation and scientific research for the betterment of the sport, in conjunction with the ethics of good sportsmanship.

  • Be a voice of NZ game sportsmen and women.

OUR VISION

to support and uphold responsible, safe and well-managed game shooting in New Zealand.
We will achieve this by providing a platform to best promote and safeguard the sport of game shooting.

code of conduct

This Code of Practice applies to all game bird shooting in New Zealand and outlines the responsibilities of hunters to uphold ethical and responsible shooting.

It promotes respect for game bird species, care for the environment, safe practices, and appropriate shooting behaviour and etiquette. The Code provides a clear framework to help gun owners, shoot organisers, managers, and gamekeepers deliver sustainable shooting activities, while managing habitats responsibly and minimising impact on others.

By following the principles set out in this Code — and encouraging others to do the same — you play an important role in protecting the future of game bird shooting in New Zealand.

THE CODE CENTRES AROUND FOUR CORE FOUNDATIONS:

  • Shooting behaviour and etiquette

  • Safe shooting

  • Bird welfare

  • Respect for the environment
